On January 4, 2004, Mark Zuckerberg launched a social networking site called The Facebook. According to Wikimedia, The Facebook website was first designed by Facebook co-founder Andrew McCollum in 2004. It had the portrait of world-famous actor Al Pacino drawn with the numbers 0 and 1 as the Facebook logo. Sitting in a room at Harvard, three other students from Harvard University, Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskowitz and Chris Hughes, accompanied them on this journey.

As such, today the company completed its second decade of the world's largest online social media platform. It was originally called The Facebook Directory. It contained the names and addresses of students from US universities. At first only Harvard students could become members. In 2006, Facebook allowed everyone to register on this website.

Later Facebook became widely popular. It has brought changes in the society of the whole world. As of 2023, Facebook has 303 million monthly active users. Facebook was the third most visited website on the Internet in October last year. Only in the United States 22.56 percent are connected to this network. In the 2010s, the most downloaded app on mobile phones was Facebook app.

On the other side of various controversies, bans and fines, many entrepreneurs have been created around the world through Facebook in recent times. For this reason, the term 'Facebook Commerce' or 'F-Commerce' is now a common term.
